Unit Meeting 4/22/07 Technique

Photo Altering

Supplies
Lumiere
Pearl ex in several colors
Water color brushes
Background stamp of choice
Classic ink pad
Glossy card stock
Mixing palates
Cup of water (Lumiere dries very quickly, keep your brushes in this)

1. Print photo in black and white on glossy card stock
2. Mix pearl ex with Lumiere
3. Color your photo with this mixture
4. After it dries, smooth a thick layer of Lumiere over the entire photo with a large brush. Do it quickly because it dries very fast. (I kept my brush wet with water when I did this; it doesn’t go on as thick so you can still see the image.) If it goes on too thick the image is barely seen.
5. Let dry and then ink up your background stamp and stamp over your image.

We thank Veronica for the wonderful tutorial!

As we were creating our photos at the unit meeting we found a few things that made for a better finished product.

1. A photo with a light background

2. A side shot/ not a straight on face shot

Pearl Ex is something you just have to experiment with! Please make sure you explain that to your club. Also, try it several times yourself before you teach it!
